Hilma af Klint: visualizing the spirit world

Many in the art world call Hilma af Klint’s paintings the first abstract art. I think that misses what she was doing. Looked at next to the scientific diagrams of her time, her work reads as an attempt to visualize spiritual concepts: information design for things you can’t see.
