Hello From The Data Vandals: a solo show at Cooper Union

Three days in the Civic Projects Lab at The Cooper Union, and about 500 people came through the door. The show was all East Village: housing, demographics, the environment, and the lesser-known numbers that keep the neighborhood running — twenty digital charts and twenty hand-painted ones, an East Village history wall, and a modern-day pushcart out on Cooper Square vending souvenirs and facts about street vending.

It was also a full weekend of talk. Martha Norrick, the city’s Chief Analytics Officer, Gabriele Rossi of Accurat, Bill Connolly from Monotype, Zachary Feder from the Office of Technology & Innovation, the Data Through Design crew, and a tour guide-comedian named Tom Delgado all took the mic. Supported by our friends at Flourish.

And then it won an Information is Beautiful Award. A room full of hand-painted charts. We still can’t quite believe it.
